Builders to the rescue...

Our team came to the rescue yesterday after a gentleman reversed his car into a ditch at the side of the Ledbury Halo Swimming Pool car park. After a few beeps of the horn, our builders on site became aware of the accident and worked together to pull the car out of the ditch and make sure that the driver was unharmed.

Hats off to you gents!

Works so far...

Since starting on site in early July 2016, Speller Metcalfe has demolished the front of the existing building, including the old reception, changing rooms and gym to make way for an extension with a new workout studio and spa facilities, extended gym, reception area and family friendly changing area.

The steel frame for the new extension has been erected and the site team have started installing the new drainage system.

Tuesday, 16 August 2016

The site team have been hard at work the last couple of weeks erecting the scaffolding inside and outside the swimming pool area.

The reduced level of excavations along with all of the foundations and underpinning have been completed on site. Concrete columns surrounding the pool area have been prepared and bolts set for steel portals.

Due to complications with paint specifications we were unable to erect the steel frame on schedule. However, the problem has been resolved and the programme has not been affected by the delay.

Our guys have definitely been lucky with the weather this week as the steel frame arrives!

The pre-cast concrete floor beams to the first floor area are programmed for installation on the 22nd August 2016 for two days. For this reason, the Halo leisure swimming pool car park will be closed between 22/08/16 – 24/08/16.

We have been busy the last couple of weeks completing the demolition of the front of the building, including the old reception, changing rooms and gym.

As part of the demolition work, we have had to remove some asbestos.

Our ground workers have started laying the foundations for the steel frame which will be arriving on site in early August.

The roof of the existing swimming pool has been removed.

Halo Leisure has created a temporary gym on site for existing members and are welcoming non-members to join at a reduced price.

Gym members still have access to the original car park. We have created a well-lit footpath that runs from the car park to the temporary gym.

And we’re off….

On the 6th July, Halo handed over the keys for the Ledbury swimming pool. Since then, our construction team have set up site, prepped the area for demolition, established temporary electrical supply to the site cabins and completed demolition works.

We have been joined on site by Smiths Ltd, who we regularly work with at Speller Metcalfe. Smith Ltd are in charge of demolishing the existing building, including the reception, changing rooms and seating area in the swimming pool to make way for a new modern façade.

MW Scaffolding have also joined us on site to set up the scaffolding surrounding the swimming pool so that we can remove the existing roof.

Prepped and ready to go, this month we will be digging out the foundations and drainage and removing the existing windows to the swimming pool.

Thank you to Simon Henshaw for filling in as site manager whilst Ian was on holiday and hello to Speller Metcalfe employee, Ben Hodson, who has joined us on site to carry out any carpentry work that is needed.

Ledbury Halo Refurbishment

Hello and Welcome to the Ledbury Halo Blog keeping you updated as to the progress of the redevelopment of Ledbury Halo - Swimming Pool and Gym.

Halo Leisure in partnership with Herefordshire Council and main contractors SpellerMetcalfe are spending an estimated £2.3 million on a refurbishment of Ledbury’s swimming pool, with work starting in June 2016 to be completed by April 2017 .

The social enterprise and registered charity has already spent some £7.5 million transforming their facilities in Bromyard, Hereford, Leominster and Ross but their CEO, Scott Rolfe, says the facilities at Ledbury swimming pool and the thousands of local people who use it have long been a priority for the leisure group.

£2.3m is being invested into an exciting development of Ledbury Swimming Pool:
  • New fitness suite:
    • twice the size of existing gym
    • double the current number of pieces of equipment
  • New fitness studio - supporting personal training and an enhanced group exercise class timetable
  • New sauna, steam room and feature shower
  • Fresh new family friendly changing facilities
  • New reception area

The building work which includes an extension starts in June 2016  and will be completed by April 2017.

Temporary closure of facilities
“The scale of the refurbishment and the need to have the best quality build in the shortest time frame makes it financially and practically impossible for the centre to remain open during the project.” said Scott Rolfe, Halo Chief Executive. “The decision of a short term closure (June 2016-April 2017) has not been taken lightly and all alternatives have been fully explored. Although the swimming pool will close we are hoping to relocate the gym to the youth club next to the pool. It will be bigger and have even more equipment and we will also run our group exercise classes from there too.”

Halo will be communicating to all customers outlining the alternative options and offers available to them during the building project including relocating the gym to what used to be the youth club in Bye Street - more details to follow....
